Manchester United’s recruitment team have wasted little time responding after seeing one of their top midfield targets fall through.

The Red Devils entered the summer determined to refresh the centre of the pitch, and their plans have gathered serious momentum over the last few days.

Instead of dwelling on one failed deal, in the form of Ederson, the club have quickly moved to secure two alternatives who are expected to play key roles under Michael Carrick.

Now, attention is turning to the final step before one of those transfers becomes official.

Manchester United set date for Youri Tielemans medical

Youri Tielemans is set to undergo his Manchester United medical tomorrow ahead of completing his move from Aston Villa, as reported by Fabrizio Romano via X.

The Belgian midfielder is expected to become United’s latest signing after the club agreed a deal worth £35 million, with the medical representing the final major hurdle before an official announcement.

Manchester United are also preparing to unveil Andrey Santos, whose transfer from Chelsea has already been signed off after successfully completing his medical.

The Brazilian’s move is worth around £50 million, taking United’s spending on the two midfielders to approximately £85 million, including add-ons.

The double signing represents a significant statement from Carrick and the club’s recruitment department as they continue rebuilding the squad ahead of the new campaign.

United had originally looked set to bring in Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

However, that move was abandoned last week and is no longer expected to happen, despite speculation suggesting otherwise over the weekend.

Rather than revisit negotiations, the club moved quickly to finalise agreements for both Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Tielemans arrives after another impressive season in the Premier League with Aston Villa, bringing valuable top-flight experience and leadership to United’s midfield.

Santos, meanwhile, is regarded as one of Brazil’s brightest young midfielders and joins after impressing during his spell with Chelsea.

With one medical already completed and another scheduled for tomorrow, Manchester United are now closing in on officially welcoming two new midfielders to Old Trafford.
