Given that the AUSL action is out west, the offense and close games have been enjoyed by the fans. They have seen the best softball players across the world display their respective skillsets. In the doubleheader on Saturday, it was a balance of the bats and circle in Omaha and Seattle once again. That being said, here is a recap of games 33 and 34.
In this game, the Talons entered as arguably the hottest team in the AUSL, winning eight straight games. They face one of the best offenses in the league, the Bandits, looking to snap the Talons win streak. Needless to say, the Bandits bats showed up in this matchup while the Talons couldn’t quite dig their claws in. The lone run from the Talons came from an RBI double by Tori Vidales in the bottom of the first inning.
From that point on, it was all Bandits as their offense got underway in the top of the second on an RBI double by Delanie Wisz. It was all about home runs in the third inning with a solo homer from Morgan Zerkle and a pair of two-run shots by Erin Coffel and Bubba Nickles-Camarena. Coffel added an RBI double in the fourth to extend the Bandits lead. Finally, Nickles-Camarena hit another homer in the fifth while adding an RBI in the sixth.
The Bandits got the 9-1 win, No. 11 on the season. Looking atop the AUSL home run leaderboard, Zerkle and Nickles-Camarena are tied with six while Coffel sits with five. Odicci Alexander got win No. 4, going four innings while allowing three hits, an earned run, and a strikeout. Sarah Willis pitched the final two innings, allowing no hits.
At Husky Softball Stadium, it was all about the circle as the Blaze faced the Volts. In the top of the first inning, Aubrey Leach scored for the Blaze on a throwing error. Next, Ana Gold hit an RBI double in the third inning, giving the Blaze a 2-0 lead. Despite a Danieca Coffey RBI double for the Volts in the bottom of the fifth, the Blaze added another run in the sixth. The bat of McKenzie Clark hit a solo homer down the left field line.
For the Blaze, the 3-1 win was their fourth victory of the AUSL season. Devyn Netz, who was recently acquired via a trade, picked up her second win. Netz went one-and-two-thirds innings as she allowed three hits, an earned run with a strikeout.
Starter Aliyah Binford went three innings as she allowed two hits with a strikeout. Finally, Keilani Ricketts picked up her second save, allowing no hits and struck out four in two-and-a third innings.
