There’s an argument to be made that competitive surfers shouldn’t drop a banger of an edit right before a contest. If the judges press play, the surfer may be judged, even subconsciously, not by what they do in a heat, but by what’s expected of them. What they just proved they can do, fresh in the eyes and minds of those all-seeing judges. And if reality doesn't meet or surpass expectations, well, if you've ever been on a surf trip you know that feeling.

But as fans of high-caliber surfing, this stuff is like a cookie waiting on the table. It must be consumed. So when Barron Mamiya recently dropped his November North Shore highlights before he paddles out for the 2025 Florence Pipe Pro, we gladly witnessed the spoils. Barron also has a way of fitting into any Pipe/Backdoor tube, no matter the size or direction, so I expect him to do just fine.

By now, you (should) know Barron’s resume at Pipeline. Two-time CT victor. Backdoor Shootout team winner. The 25-year-old surfs the deadliest wave in the world like most of us mindsurf it.

So, what did he get up to last month? Only get spat out of a dozen North Shore cones, dial in his Channel Islands Goldie, and make back-to-back finals at Sunset and Haleiwa. Just another solid start to the winter.
