Bali, nicknamed the “Island of the Gods,” has been struck by a hellish tragedy.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, flooding in major population centers have rocked local communities, rendering at least a dozen dead – with the count rising – many more missing, and buildings completely collapsing due to the abnormally high water.
See just a glimpse of the severity below, as a structure crumbles amidst the flooding.

In Bali’s capital, Denpasar, five people have been reported dead. In the regions of Jembrana, Gianyar, and Badung, four more have died. And eight bodies were found when a building collapsed in the Kumbasari market in Denpasar.
These are just preliminary numbers; more casualties are expected. And untold numbers remain missing.
“My house was flooded and we couldn't go anywhere, we were completely isolated until 3pm," Denpasar resident Ni Made Anggraeni told ABC. "From yesterday morning to the morning of today, the rain never stopped. All my life living in Bali, this is the first time this happened. I am scared for sure, but we were lucky this morning, we were all awake … if we had been asleep, we had no idea there would be a flood and we would have been carried away."
Rescue crews have been wading through the water, and even using boats to navigated the inundated neighborhoods to pick up those stranded.
The roads that aren’t flooded, apparently, are experiencing major gridlock – even more than the traditional Balinese thoroughfare chaos – as people try and flee. Access to the island’s international airport in Denpasar was slim, due to the traffic.
Denpasar local Ardiansyah told the ABC: "I'm worried, I hope there would no longer be such a heavy rain like the one last night. I hope the Denpasar government will handle it soon … it's never happened like this before."
Prayers for Bali.
