In the wise words of the great Bob Marley, if you don't know your history you can't know your future. And that's exactly the guiding light for the folks at the Surfing Heritage and Culture Center (SHACC). On a mission to preserve and share the history, heritage and culture of surfing, the Orange County-based nonprofit has joined forces with surfer/songwriter Donavon Frankenrieter for their upcoming gala event this month
While Donavon will be headlining the evening and providing entertainment, the thing about the parties SHACC throws is that you never know who's going to turn up. Original Pipe master, Gerry Lopez, is already on the guest list, and there's certainly more legends to come. A fundraiser for SHACC, who will be moving from their current digs in San Clemente to a new spot in Laguna Beach in the not-too-distant future, beside the musical interlude there's an auction lined up that will feature a board shaped by Lopez and painted by renowned surf artist Phil Roberts, along with a load of other treasures.
Taking place on Saturday, May 10, at the Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano, not too far from Salt Creek where Donavon sprouted his first 'stache, if you've got a little FOMO going, no stress, you're invited. Tickets are still available here.
Not only will you score a great, intimate performance from one of surfing's favorite musicians, but you'll be doing your part to ensure that future generations will be able to learn about and enjoy the myriad of facets of surf history for years to come.
