A massive, multi-use facility – featuring a Wavegarden Cove wave pool as its centerpiece – is coming to Fort Pierce, Florida. And according to recent reports, the project has broken ground.

Construction at Koa Bay, as the development is called, is reportedly underway per local news West Palm CW34. But no sneak peak yet, as “progress is difficult to assess from the outside due to the dense tree coverage in the area.” However, there are artist’s renditions of what’s to come, in addition to details about the project, which includes 1,000 residential units, two hotels, and retail space.

For more specs on the wave, here’s the lowdown from Wave Pool Magazine:

“This new development will feature a massive 56 module Wavegarden Cove in the simultaneously surf-stoked and surf-starved state of Florida. The wave pool will be the center piece of a half billion dollar development designed to bring economic development to Fort Pierce Florida. The only other 56 module Cove at the moment is in South Korea at the massive Turtle Island development.

“The cove produces everything from gentle knee-high rollers to head-high slabs via their top-secret machinery. Wave height: 2-7 ft. Both left and right breaks on either side of the Cove design. South Korea, also a 56-module design offers length of ride at 15-20 seconds on the Malibu setting.”

According to the official Koa Bay website, the pool operation will feature membership surf packages – they range from $1,080 to $5,625 annually. Seems like a lot of money. But also seems like this project is going to be big – both from the wave pool to the amenities and beyond.

“A visionary residential community offering members the opportunity to surf perfect waves on-demand, enjoy modern comforts and elevated amenities, and embrace an active lifestyle in a tropical setting—thoughtfully designed for connection with others and nature,” the site says.

Koa Bay is slated for open at the end of 2026.
