Jamie O’Brien is the unofficial “king” of surfing side hustles.
Growing up on the sand at Pipeline, he's one of the best to ever surf the wave. That’s where his starpower was born. But beyond that, he has one of the widest-reaching YouTube channels of any surfer – documenting daily life, hunting down novelty waves in the off-season, and bringing viewers (literally) inside the tube at Pipeline when it’s on.
And with the YouTube fame, Jamie O’Brien has made himself a brand. That means merchandise, experiences for fans, a surf school at Turtle Bay (and another one in Waikiki; more on that below), and a new line of soft-top surfboards coming soon.
Dropping next summer, the soft-top surfboards will be geared towards newcomers to the sport in his surf schools, while also maintaining high-quality.
“The new soft top brand is called Fun Day,” said JOB. “It’s a colorful, playful brand that really reflects my personality. I’m aiming to create the best range of soft top and beginner surfboards that not only perform well but also align perfectly with the vibe of our surf school. This has honestly been a dream come true… to improve on what came before, with a focus on surfer-owned, high-quality designs. It’s the start of a new wave of soft tops and apparel!”
Additionally, the Jamie O’Brien School of Surf is now open at the Twin Fin Hotel on the storied shores of surfing’s birthplace, Waikiki Beach.
Per JOB: “Having a surf school in Waikiki is something special and I’m so grateful to call The Twin Fin our Waikiki home base. I grew up surfing there during the summers and there’s truly nothing like it. So much sunshine, consistent waves all year, and being right on the main strip of Waikiki really elevates what we do and what our brand stands for.”

“At the end of the day,” JOB added, “there’s no better feeling than sharing the gift of surfing with the world.”
