It's pretty rare for the conditions at Pipeline to line up and deliver double overhead surf and good conditions for days and days on end. Surfline says its the best February run since they started keeping track in 2002, so the best in over 20 years. To put it differently, it was a damn good year to be a pro surfer living on the North Shore with an appetite for cavernous pits grinding over shallow reef. Tosh Tudor, as seen in his latest short film, "Pa'ina" (which means small party with dinner) rose to the occasion and made the most out of the remarkable dream run.

Tosh is no stranger to the inside of dreamy--sometimes incredibly heavy--tubes, far from it. I don't know if anyone's counting but he must certainly be in consideration for the most barreled human alive. Whether he's going backside and grabbing rail with a stylish and tight parallel stance , or drawing smooth frontside bottom turns to line himself up for the imminent cavern ahead, the kid looks good.

With all that barrel time, you can't help but wonder what exactly is under his feet. By the looks of it, he's primarily riding twin pins, most likely from Joe Blair under the THC label out of San Diego. We'll dig into this query and be sure to update this post with the proper information because, whatever he's riding, they perform perfectly. Certainly puts to rest the sentiment that 'twin fins don't go well backside.'

As part of the turf of growing up with a surf legend for a father, the 3x World Champion Joel Tudor, young Tosh has been in the spotlight for some time and it's safe to say that he has earned it and is even a better tube rider than his old man--and he's only getting better with each tube hunting season. His younger brother Judah just got his first waves at Pipe earlier this year so it likely won't be long until we have two Tudor's in the world's most notorious lineup going back to back on bombs.

As the Pipeline's best run in recent memory slowly fades into the rearview, the edits featuring legendary rides are just beginning. Decades from now, the current crop of Pipe surfers will be telling stories of the memorable February of 2025.
