The Currumbin, and surrounding Queensland, Australia community, is mourning the untimely death of one of their own, Jackson “Jacko” Graham; he was 22.
At the age of 14, Jacko won the Palm Beach Boardriders event, and he was a former WSL junior tour competitor. Additionally, he was an Australian footballer. Both sporting bodies – surfers and footballers – shared memories and support for the loss of Jacko.
The cause of his death was not immediately reported; but the weight of the loss, nonetheless, was felt immensely. And the tributes were pouring in upon the news.
Per a GoFundMe account from the football world, they wrote:
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and friend, Jackson Graham. Jackson was a valued member of our team, known for his skill, work ethic, and warm nature. His passing has left a profound impact on all who knew him.
“This fundraiser has been set up for those who wish to contribute in Jackson’s memory. All proceeds will be directed to support his family during this incredibly difficult time, in accordance with their wishes.
“Any contribution – no matter the amount – is greatly appreciated. Your generosity will help ease some of the practical burdens for Jackson’s loved ones as they navigate the days ahead.
“On behalf of everyone at SDF, thank you for your kindness and support.”
Kelly Slater even chimed in on a commemorative post: “Terrible to hear. Sorry for your loss.”
There’s a paddle-out coming to celebrate Jacko’s life; further details to follow.
Rest in peace, Jackson Graham.
