Sneaker Wave Almost Kills Tourist Taking Selfie in Egypt (Video)

In the clip, the woman poses for the photo, yet, periodically peers back at the sea as the waves continue to encroach upon the cliffside. Eventually, one wave breaches the eye-shaped bluff, pouring through the opening, and taking the woman with it.

Luckily, there was a safety rope for the woman to grab onto, before she was fully swept out to sea. And during the incident, she didn’t come out fully unscathed. According to reports, the woman said the situation was “very scary,” and she suffered multiple bumps and bruises from being washed across the rocks.

Many in the comments section remarked the perilous plight of folks risking life and limb just to get a good photo. “People be risking their lives for content,” one wrote. “All for the gram,” wrote another. “The ocean is one thing you don’t play with!” someone warned.

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen people endangering themselves for a photo amidst sketchy ocean conditions. It happens all the time, sadly. But it’s typically in other locations – like Angel’s Billabong in Indonesia, or Reynisfjara beach in Iceland.

It’s strange to think the Red Sea, and Egypt, can pose a similar threat. Let it serve as a reminder that the ocean is not to be toyed with, no matter where you are.
