Great white sharks are apex predators, correct?
Indeed. They’ve existed on this earth for somewhere around five to seven million years. Humans? About 300,000 to 350,000 years. So, to channel Charles Darwin, that means that great whites are biologically built to thrive and survive.
But even whites, every now and then, get into trouble. Like below.
The footage comes from Yogi.Backpack, aka Rebecca, a self-proclaimed “nature enthusiast.” And while it appears that nature influencer is based out of Florida, there’s no word on where this scene actually took place. Tagged great whites, however, have recently been spotted off the Sunshine State – like a 10-footer in Sarasota.
Anyway, back to the story. Rebecca narrates the scene with poignancy. Her caption reads:
“I’ve spent my life admiring sharks…But nothing prepares you for the moment when one of them needs your help...Standing there in the surf, watching this powerful anima struggle, my heart completely shattered.
“I didn’t think twice. We just started trying. Wave after wave. Push after push. There was no language between us, but somehow we understood each other.
“Refusing to give up on him. What happened next still feels unbelievable…”
She followed it up with another post, showing a drone angle of the situation.
In the end, it appears that Rebecca and her partner were able to successfully help the shark back out to sea – and perhaps most miraculously, with all their limbs still attached. Ask any shark expert, and this type of behavior is most likely not condoned.
As Rebecca narrates in the video:
“It was a freaking great white shark. We took action and started helping. This shark wanted to live. We called the authorities and they took very long.”
Then, she added:
“God exists. And he helped us.”
Umm…thoughts?
