Two of surfing’s biggest YouTubers, the “biggest swell of the year” (so far) on the North Shore of Oahu, and they both dropped full-length videos today documenting the session.
Hyperboles abound.
During the recent, XXL swell that hit the fabled Seven Mile Miracle, it was all systems go, big enough to ignite the rogue Outer Reefs that sit outside the typical surf spots. And both Jamie O’Brien and Ben Gravy – two of the most-watched surfing YouTubers – teamed up to tow surf the swell, documenting all the action. Let’s dive into Gravy’s first.
“It feels like every year that I book a flight to Hawaii the swell of the century pops up & I start fearing for my life,” Gravy recapped. “This year was no different when the actual massive 50ft swell of the year showed up on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Thank you everyone for all of the support over the years, I'm very honored to still be here making my dreams come true.”
By the looks of it, the boys had a full day on the water – starting at Haleiwa Harbor at dawn, to prep and launch the jet skis, and only coming in after everyone had their fill. As well as a couple near-tragedies, of course – but nothing too serious. Still, “surfer’s worst nightmare,” JOB penned in his video account of the day’s heavy-water happenings.
Here’s JOB’s recap from the harbor:
“Literally on the jet ski from, like, dark until 4 o’clock right now. Ben [Gravy] got some epic waves. We all just had a blast today. The North Shore is absolutely going off. This is a good start to the season so far, and I can’t wait to see what’s in our future here on the North Shore. Epic day.”
As for what’s coming down the pipeline – pun absolutely intended – it’s the Florence Pipe Pro, a QS 2000 event, with a who's-who of Pipeline specialists, beginning December 10th.
Tune in live.
