A teenage student is suing the Long Beach Unified School District after, as the claim alleges, they failed to protect him from a flurry of bullying.

Rising surf star William Frey, a member of the Wilson High School Surf Team, was beaten up, branded as a “pedophile,” and barraged with a series of death threats, according to court reports obtained by the New York Post.

And Frey is suing for the school district’s lack of response.

It appears that all the drama was mainly between Frey and fellow surf team member Owen Keller. Keller was upset because Frey was hanging out with his 15-year-old sister, Ainsley. Back in 2025, things got violent. Per the Post:

“Frey, 17, was at his family home with Keller’s 15-year-old sister, Ainsley, on April 17, 2025, when she received a call from her brother Owen. With the phone on speaker, Owen demanded to know where Ainsley was before allegedly threatening Frey, according to court papers.

“’Tell that motherf—-r that if you’re with him, I’m going to beat the s–t out of him because I’m not f—-n’ playing,’ Keller allegedly said. Three minutes later, Keller was at Frey’s door and yelling, ‘Open the door, William, I’m going to f—-n’ kill you,’ the court papers said.”

During that incident, per the lawsuit, Frey was beaten by Keller and his friends. They reportedly punched him “repeatedly in the head and kicked him, striking him 15 to 20 times each, according to the lawsuit.”

Following the incident, a temporary restraining order was issued, mandating that Frey and the alleged attackers remain 25 yards away from each other.

The threats, however, continued. And Frey was branded as a “pedophile” due to his relationship with Keller’s younger sister. An anonymous death threat was submitted on the school’s official reporting portal, which read:

“I’m going to kill William Frey.”

The Post continued: “Despite the restraining order that was in place, the Long Beach Unified School district ‘failed to implement any meaningful measures to enforce them,’ and all of the students were allowed to participate in surf class, according to the lawsuit.”

Since the incidents of bullying, death threats, and name-calling, all those involved have moved on from the high school, graduating in the class of 2025.
