Video: Best Double Barrel at Pipeline Ever?

That’s what JOB asks in his video recap the session and the wave. And while, of course, the North Shore native is a master of algorithms and getting the most views on a video as possible – hence the hyperbole, and hey, we’re shamelessly doing it, too – it’s a valid question. Here’s the breakdown:

“You know what was the coolest part about that whole thing? It was the double barrel with Mike Stewart. Mike Stewart is the ultimate legend out there, whether it’s on a bodyboard or whatever. I took off out the back on this huge third reef set. I was almost too deep. I come around the corner, and there’s this bodyboarder. I look and it’s Mike. I was like, ‘let’s do this!’”

As for the tube:

“The thing lined up perfectly. I was just making sure I wasn’t too deep. Mike was committed, and I was like, ‘let’s run this back.’ We got a double barrel out there 15 years ago. And we did it again. When I pulled into the barrel, a chandelier started dropping, and I couldn’t see anything. I trusted Mike’s line. And the thing just blew its guts out. I looked around, and Mike appeared out of the spit. What an epic session.”

Sharing the new tube, and the OG one, which was featured in JOB’s 2006 movie Freakside, Stewart had his own thoughts on the special experience. On social media, he wrote:

“Getting a barrel at Pipe is a truly special experience, but sharing a barrel with your friend takes it to another level. There’s something magical about being in such an intense and personal moment with an amigo.

“There are only a few people left with whom I feel confident enough to do this, and @whoisjob , one of the best to ever ride it to this day, is definitely one of them.”

Best ever? Who knows, who cares. It was epic. Period.
