Maui big wave surfer and all-around waterman Kai Lenny has pretty much done it all when it comes to pushing the limits in the ocean.
The eight-time SUP world champ has cheated death, endured death-defying wipeouts, and surfs massive big wave spots like Jaws, Mavericks, and Nazaré.
So lately, he's been coming up with new challenges like tow surfing with horses, foiling near cargo ships, and capsizing pricey speedboats. His latest shenanigans? Racing a plane between the Hawaiian Islands.
Lenny captioned his latest vlog above:
"The Ultimate Race to See What's Faster to Travel Between the Hawaiian Islands - FOIL vs Plane
"FOIL vs COMMERCIAL AIR TRAVEL Obviously flying is faster but with the airport security and lag time in between can a FOIL actually WIN?"
Opening the video, Lenny says he's foiling in the Moloka’i 2 O’ahu Paddleboard World Championships.
"It's gonna be insane," he says. "I can't wait, conditions are looking epic."
But for a competition fiend like Lenny, the 32-mile race isn't enough and he's added a twist that involves his friend and filmer, Marc Chambers.
"Kai said, 'I have a great idea. And every time he says that I sweat a little bit," Chambers says.
The idea? He's decided to race airborne Chambers too.
While Lenny foils from Moloka'i to Oahu across the Ka'iwi Channel—one of the roughest sections of the ocean in the world with depths of 2,300 feet—Chambers will race him to the finish line via commercial airplane, a McLaren sports car, and an Audi.
