Oahu is revered as Hawaii's surfing mecca.
It's home to legendary surf breaks like Pipeline, Sunset, Makaha, V-Land, Rocky Point, and a bunch more fit for pros and surfers who rip.
But more people than ever are learning to surf nowadays, so where should they go? T&C Surf shares the best Oahu surf breaks for beginners in the video below.
Opening the video, the narrator jumps right into it sharing details about the surf spots below.
1. Pua'ena Point: Located outside of historical Haleiwa town at the start of the North Shore, Pua'ena Point is "an exposed reef break renowned for its consistent waves."
It has both rights and lefts and even when big winter swells hit the North Shore, smaller waves break on the inside of Pu'ena, making it surfable for beginners.
According to T&C, it's best on northwest swells and southeast winds through winter. Surf schools run out of Pua'ena too.
2. Pokai Bay: Located on the Waianae coast on the leeward (dry) side of Oahu, Pokai Bay has a sandy bottom and offers lefts and rights.
T&C says it's best on a "west northwest swell and east northeast winds" in winter. It's got amenities like showers, restrooms, picnic areas, parking, making it nice and cushy.
3. White Plains Beach: Also located on Oahu's leeward side in Ewa Beach, T&C calls this a "more locally surfed spot" with fewer tourists. Its sandy floor makes it nice for beginners.
T&C says it's best on a south swell with north winds in the summer. White Plains is complete with showers, restrooms, picnic areas, and plenty of parking.
4. Waikiki Beach: Located in the heart of Honolulu, aka Town, Waikiki surf spots Canoes and Baby Queens are best for beginners. T&C advises beginners to stay away from Queens.
Baby Queens is gentle and close to shore, while Canoes is a little farther out and offers both rights and lefts. T&C points out it's best on south swells and northeast winds in summer.
Remember, always be respectful and practice proper surfing etiquette.
