Coco Ho had an enviable itinerary in 2024. “Last year, my approach to surfing was to keep life really simple,” she said. “Pack one board bag with the same three to four models that I love and put them to the test around the world in so many different conditions.”

The quiver of twins, quads and thrusters she rode came from XO Coco, the board label she founded with Matt Parker (of Album Surfboards) last year. With the brand reaching its first anniversary, Coco just dropped the highlight reel from her travels, proving the versatility of the designs in a variety of waves and under a few (very) notable surfers.

From Rocky Point to Abu Dhabi to J-Bay and beyond, Coco looks like she's in career form. Faster. Sharper. Looser. Short of knifing the hollowest slabs or paddling into peaks that require a legit step-up, these boards look capable of just about everything you can throw at them. Coco rides everything from a 4’9" Tryst Fish to a 6’4" Halcyon Twin with her distinct style and consistency.

She also got her boards under the feet of Stephanie Gilmore, Harry Bryant, Noah Beschen, Juliette Lacome, and Eithan Osborne. While the brand is positioned to make surfboards for women, guys can certainly rip on these things, too.

"Being able to share these boards with my friends and family has been the most gratifying part of this whole experience," Coco said. "Just seeing everyone's approach, where they place turns, their genuine happiness when they're paddling into waves, and their shock on their first waves, how fun they are, and the freedom it brings has been the most fun for me."

In our interview with Coco last year with SURFER’s Ashtyn Douglas-Rosa, Coco explained how going from riding thrusters most of her life to diversifying her quiver had dramatically changed her outlook on sessions. “I just feel like it’s a little more precise," she said. "It’s definitely a lot freer, due to me riding more twin fins. Twins are just fast and free but still really drivey, so it’s brought a lightness to my surfing. I haven’t been this happy with surfing in all conditions in a very long time. Now I want to surf in all conditions because now I’m equipped for it. Even if it’s terrible out there, I’m like, ‘Oh it’s ok, I have the right board for this.”

One year in and Coco is looking dialed. I'm already looking forward to the 2025 reel.
