“This is probably one of the most proud days I've had,” says Nate Florence in the beginning of this new clip, a behind-the-scenes look at his brother John John's road to his third world title at the 2024 WSL Finals at Lowers.

“I mean, he's had three of these big title wins and they're all special in their own way, but it just felt like this year, having a full healthy year, with no injuries…and on top of it all we're running our own company and wearing our own gear," Nate continued. "I mean he's got Florence on the back of his jersey. And being down on the beach, with a big crowd of people all wearing Florence gear while screaming their heads off was very, very special. We couldn't be more thankful.”

Nate flew to Trestles straight from West Oz, where he’d attempted (unsuccessfully) to paddle “The Right”. While that trip was the most humbled and dejected we’ve ever seen the middle Florence on his YouTube channel, being in California with John while he reclaimed the WSL throne for the first time since 2016 sure turned his spirits around.

The rad thing about Nate is that he’s basically Jim Carrey in the Truman Show, except he’s a willing participant in broadcasting his own life. While this clip is a little different from most of what Nate puts out online, it’s cool to see John’s win from the perspective of his closest family and friends. The best part of the piece starts at 17:00, where Nate brings us down on the cobblestones at Trestles and into John’s cheering squad. The energy from that crew as John rides the two waves that ultimately win him the world title over Italo Ferreira is something that you can't get on the webcast, and it really illustrates just how much this title meant to John’s family and friends.
