USA Swimming will undergo major leadership changes after an uninspiring performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

A source for Sports Illustrated revealed that CEO Tim Hinchey and national team manager Lindsay Mintenko are expected to step down soon amid backlash for the team's performance at the global games.

Despite scoring the most swimming medals in the Olympics than any other country--28 medals with 8 golds--it is the US' fewest gold medals in the sport since 1988, SI noted.

A poor showing at the 2023 World Championships is reportedly another reason for the expected leadership change. The US only had seven golds at the meet.

As the country prepares to host the 2028 Olympics, the pressure to return to its old dominant ways increases.

The SI source added that Mintenko's lack of coaching experience had some in USA Swimming questioning her fit as team manager.

As for CEO Hinchey, his contract is up for renewal next year, and the board is expected to decide on his contract by the end of September.

Despite the reports, nothing has been confirmed about the leadership changes.

Team USA Dominates Olympics

Despite what USA Swimming may consider a below-average performance, the country still dominated in the 2024 Olympics.

It led all countries in the medal tally with 40 golds, 44 silvers, and 42 bronze, for a total of 126 medals. China came in second with 40 golds, 27 silvers, and 24 bronze medals, for 91.

Interestingly, USA's Torri Huske is third in most medals for an individual olympian. The swimmer brought home three golds and two silvers for five medals.

US Swimmer Regan Smith came in fifth with two golds and three silvers.
