Watch: Michael Phelps fires back at Aussie swimmers' trash talk ahead of Paris Games

The U.S. has the most swimming medals in Olympic history (367 more than second place Australia) and the most gold medals (188 more than the Aussies)

Michael Phelps alone has 28 total medals, 23 of them gold, which is well ahead of the most-decorated Aussie swimmers, Ian Thorpe and Emma McKeon, who have a combined 20 medals.

The U.S.-Aussie rivalry will be turned up to full throttle in Paris when Katie Ledecky and Ariarne Titmus renew their competitive enmity. Titmus dethroned Ledecky in the 400m freestyle in Tokyo and claimed two of her world records earlier this year.

The relays between the two countries will also be must-watch television with their history of dramatic finishes, like in 2021 when the Aussies edged out the U.S. women in the 4x100m freestyle.

Phelps also teased the idea of an Olympic comeback, revealing Friday on "The Pat McAfee Show" that a conversation with his son during U.S. trials sparked the theoretical return to the pool.

Phelps stopped short of announcing a comeback but still believes that if he did dive back in, he could compete and win.

With or without Phelps, the U.S. is sure to have plenty of bulletin board material to get hyped up ahead of their duel in the pool with Australia at the Paris Games.
