Nick Kyrgios was largely absent from the ATP Tour in 2025, with the Australian in a constant battle with injury.
Kyrgios played just five singles matches in the most recent ATP Tour season, winning one and losing the other four.
Once ranked 13th in the world, the seven-time ATP winner has since slipped all the way down to 673rd place.
Kyrgios has managed to make it onto the court in recent times, taking part in various exhibitions following the conclusion of the season.
The 2022 Wimbledon runner-up will, however, officially return to ATP action at the Brisbane International next month.
Taking place in his home nation, the tournament has handed Kyrgios a wildcard to play in the ATP 250 event.
And that should be a welcome decision for the player himself and the many tennis fans who enjoy watching the talented Australian.
He should feel very comfortable on home soil, and may just be out to prove a point to himself and to his critics, of which there are many.
Kyrgios is undoubtedly one of the most controversial players in all of tennis, not just on the ATP Tour.
His upcoming Battle of the Sexes match with Aryna Sabalenka has drawn plenty of criticism, but it certainly has tennis fans talking.
He can be a hugely frustrating figure for many, who may argue that he has failed to live up to his potential due to his behaviour on court.
But he remains one of the most charismatic and blockbuster players on his day, which should ultimately attract more fans to the sport.
Intriguingly, his Brisbane International situation could be repeated at the Australian Open, for which Kyrgios needs a wildcard given his lack of protected ranking.
