In the middle of 2025, Alex de Minaur stated, “I’m at my peak,” and added that he is ready to “break through some barriers”. He then went on to win the Mubadala Citi Open for his first title of the year. It turned out to be his only title of 2025. de Minaur had an excellent, though not elite, 2025.

In his 10th year as a professional, the Australian amassed some excellent numbers. de Minaur won 56 tour-level matches, broke the 300-win mark, and finished No. 7 in the world rankings. For most players, this would be an outstanding season. For de Minaur, it was very good, but not yet elite.

Alex de Minaur 2025 Season Recap

Big Wins

The 26-year-old Australian notched some excellent wins during his 2025 campaign. He collected top 10 wins over No. 6 Taylor Fritz at the Nitto Tour Finals and pushed aside No. 3 Alex Zverev in the Laver Cup.

While his top 10 wins were in non-traditional tournament settings, he also dusted off multi-major winner Daniil Medvedev in Monte Carlo. In his only title run, he won the Citi Open final over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Losses to the Elite

While de Minaur racked up 56 tour-level wins this year, he also suffered some tough losses. His performance in the Grand Slams showed just this level of greatness without exceptionalism. He reached the Round of 16 at Wimbledon before bowing out to Novak Djokovic.

In the US Open and the Australian Open, he advanced to the quarter-finals before falling to Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jannik Sinner, respectively.

Alex de Minaur’s overall record, despite losses to megastars Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, shows he is close but not yet there. In 2025, he was a combined 0-8 against the world’s top two players. After losing to Sinner for the 13th straight time as a professional at the Nitto Tour Finals, he stated, “I know how to beat him. It’s just not that easy to do, right?” No, it isn’t.

Opportunities in 2026

Alex de Minaur is not alone in failing to defeat Sinner or Alcaraz.  At 26 years old, with over 300 tour-level wins and a top-10 world ranking, he is a world superstar. Will that transfer into a Grand Slam win or a breakthrough against the very top players in 2026? Maybe, but it isn’t that easy. Just ask de Minaur.
