The Swiss Open Gstaad 2025 will be missing a few of it's headliners, as World No.3 Alexander Zverev and former Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini have announced their withdrawal from the tournament.
An ATP 250 event, the Gstaad Open is scheduled to run from July 14-20, 2025. Players will have to make the quick transition back to clay following the grass court season that concludes with the Wimbledon Championships, as the Gstaad Open is one of the final clay court events of the season.
The former Roland Garros finalist was announced as a withdrawal by tournament organizers on Thursday. Zverev was coming off a shock first round upset at the Wimbledon Championships, where he lost a five-set thriller to Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech. Subsequently, the German would share his emotions during his press conference, telling reporters he was considering therapy.
"Alexander Zverev has unfortunately withdrawn from the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad 2025 for personal reasons," said the Gstaad Open organizers in a released statement.
Joining Zverev on the list of withdrawals is defending Gstaad Open champion Matteo Berrettini. The Italian defeated Frenchman Quentin Halys in last year's final to lift the trophy. However, an injury appears to have prompted his withdrawal from this year's edition, as announced by the tournament organizers.
Similar to Zverev, Berrettini also suffered a disappointing loss at the Wimbledon Championships. The former World No.6 fell to unseeded Polish player Kamil Majchrzak in five sets in their first round encounter. However, Berrettini had skipped all of the grass court warm up events prior to Wimbledon, as the Italian was dealing with an injury.
The Gstaad Open kicks off on Monday, and will feature former champion Casper Ruud, three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka and the always entertaining Alexander Bublik, amongst other stars of the ATP Tour.
