Alexander Zverev Sends ‘Spoil their Party’ Warning to Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner: 'They’re the Players to Beat'

Alexander Zverev opened up about his mental health issues after crashing out of Wimbledon, where Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech knocked him out in the first round in five sets. Zverev later said he was lacking joy in his life, as nothing on and off the court was making him happy.

Zverev once again came close to winning his first Grand Slam title when he reached the Australian Open final this year. But World No.1 Jannik Sinner denied him the win, defending his crown without breaking a sweat.

After that heartbreak, the German ace failed to secure more than two consecutive matches in the next six tournaments he played. But he ended his title drought at the BMW Open by beating Ben Shelton.

Last year, the World No.3 lost a five-set French Open final to Carlos Alcaraz, and in this year’s clay-court Major, 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic ended his campaign with a four-set victory in the quarterfinal.

Zverev then had decent campaigns in the two grass-court tournaments he played next. He reached the Stuttgart Open final, losing the match to Taylor Fritz, who registered his fifth consecutive win over Zverev. The three-time Grand Slam finalist then lost in the semifinal of the Halle Open.

Although Zverev has never claimed a grass-court title in his career and also has never progressed beyond the fourth round of Wimbledon, he was expected to make a deep run in the grass-court Major. When that didn’t happen, he made those concerning mental health admissions.

But Zverev, it seems, is ready to bounce back. During an Adidas event in London, Zverev expressed confidence in himself to hinder the two young Grand Slam champions, Alcaraz and Sinner, from winning tournaments.

At the moment, Carlos is the kind of the star boy now. He just brings great energy to the court, and along with Jannik, they are the players to beat. I just hope to spoil their party a little bit, and I think I can do that.

Alexander Zverev told Tennis365

The two young rivals recently played the Wimbledon final, where Alcaraz couldn’t repeat what he did in the French Open final. Sinner eked out a four-set win to become the first Italian ever to lift the Wimbledon trophy and improve his head-to-head record over the 22-year-old to 5-8.

Carlos is a great guy. He is fun to be around, and he always has a smile on his face. If he can avoid any controversies, he is going to be very, very loved by tennis fans.

Alexander Zverev added

Zverev was recently spotted training with Rafael Nadal‘s former coach Toni Nadal at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, sparking coach rumors. He was scheduled to play at the Gstaad Open, but the 28-year-old has pulled out of the tournament.

Ivan Ljubicic says Carlos Alcaraz reminds him of Roger Federer

Roger Federer‘s former coach Ivan Ljubicic thinks that when the Swiss maestro played, he was not “consciously trying to put on a show“. And this, according to Ljubicic, is not the case with Carlos Alcaraz.

According to Ljubicic, the young Spaniard wants to have fun on the court for himself as well as for the audience. The Croatian coach also talked about the similarities between the retired tennis player and the five-time Grand Slam champion.

If there’s anyone who reminds me of Roger, it’s Alcaraz. That way of playing where you never know what’s going to happen next. Like Roger, he’s always looking for the winning shot, he’s always playing actively. There are also many differences. Roger was more efficient. The show was the fruit of his play.

Ivan Ljubicic told Tages-Anzeiger

Alcaraz has played seven finals this season so far, winning five titles. He will next be playing tournaments on the North American hard-court swing.
