Serena Williams teases return to court: 'I am not retired'

Tennis living legend Serena Williams has once again teased that she hasn't yet played her final competitive match.

Per Natasha Dye of People and TMZ Sports, Williams hinted during a recent appearance at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco that she could potentially play on one of the sport's biggest stages in 2023.

"I'm not retired," Williams said at the time. "The chances of me returning are very high. You can come to my house and [see], I have a court."

Williams announced back on Aug. 9 that she was "evolving away" from tennis and then seemed to offer an emotional farewell to fans after she fell to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the U.S. Open in New York City. However, the 41-year-old said in September that she thought Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady "started a really cool trend" of retiring and then returning this past winter.

Brady initially retired as an active player on Feb. 1 but confirmed on March 13 that he would play at least one more NFL season.

"I did wake up the other day and I went on the court and I was like, 'Oh, for the first time in my life, I'm not playing for a competition and it felt really weird,'" Williams added during her latest comments about a possible comeback. "It was like the first day of the rest of my life, and so far, I am enjoying it. But, I’m still trying to find that balance."

Williams remains stuck on 23 Grand Slam singles titles, one behind Margaret Court for the all-time record.
