Andy Murray: Predicting Next Step after Novak Djokovic Split

Former World No. 1 Andy Murray parted ways with Novak Djokovic as his coach. The former British tennis star stunned the world by getting appointed as the coach of his great rival. The Serbian announced it on his Instagram account as the duo started preparing for the new season in December last year. However, the results haven’t been satisfactory as of late.

So much so, Djokovic is set to play his third clay event of the season and is yet to win a match on this surface. This is not good enough for a player who has three Roland Garros crowns and an Olympic Gold medal next to his name. On the other hand, Murray has ended a six-month stint and is now in the hunt for a new job. But will he return to coaching once again in the future?

What Did Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray Say?

On his Instagram account, Djokovic paid tribute to his departing coach. “Thank you, Coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun, and support over the last six months on and off the court. I really enjoyed deepening our friendship together.” Andy Murray replied, “Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together and thanks to his team for all their hard work over the past six months.”

Djokovic and Murray spent six months together starting in December 2024. Their biggest moment together came at the Australian Open, where the Serb defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinal despite carrying an injury. The Serb then crashed out in the semifinals to Alexander Zverev.

The second major point came at the Miami Open, where the Serb reached the final. Djokovic was looking to move beyond Andre Agassi for the most Miami Open titles in history. However, he was stopped in his tracks by Jakub Mensik, who overcame the 24-time Grand Slam champion in two tiebreak sets.

What Next?

For now, Murray has been announced as a member of the Queen’s Club. He will attend the first day of the WTA Queens Club event, when the center court will be named after him as the “Andy Murray Arena.” After that, he will be present at Wimbledon and will be at the members’ club. After that, the coaching offers would remain alongside the three-time Grand Slam champion. Considering Jack Draper‘s evolution in the past couple of years, who knows? He may have a familiar voice in the player’s box?
