Andy Murray still dealing with groin discomfort after latest defeat

Former world No. 1 Andy Murray was overcome with emotion following his victory Tuesday at the cinch Championships as he works to reach full fitness ahead of the Wimbledon Championships that open June 28.

His run at the Queen's Club came to a crashing halt Thursday, however, as he fell 6-3, 6-3 to Italy's Matteo Berrettini.

According to Jonathan Jurejko of BBC Sport, Murray said after the defeat it's "unlikely" he'll play competitively before Wimbledon so he can get his body ready for the summer Grand Slam.

"There are some slight niggles in the groin and I will have to try and get rid of that between now and Wimbledon," the 34-year-old with three Slams on his resume explained.

The two-time Wimbledon champion underwent multiple hip surgeries in recent years and, most recently, dealt with a "freak" groin injury this spring.

"I need matches and I need to practice with top players over the next 10 days," he added about preparing for his upcoming appearance at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Murray previously received a wild-card entry for Wimbledon.
