ATP 250 Almaty 1/16-Finals

Struff – McDonald: Time TBA
H2H: 1-0

Jan-Lennard Struff has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in Roanne, Struff was upset by Sakellaridis in the opening round in three tight sets. This will be his debut campaign in Almaty. Around this time last season, Struff played in Vienna, where he lost to de Minaur in the opening round.

Mackenzie McDonald has won four of his last five matches. Last week in Jinan, McDonald played in a Challenger tournament. He finished as a runner-up, losing in the final against Cazaux in straight sets. He hopes for a solid result this week to cement his top 100 status.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, Struff is the slight favourite in this matchup, but we disagree. McDonald had a decent run in Jinan last week and enjoys playing on hard courts. On the other hand, Struff lost the previous two matches against big underdogs. We expect McDonald to keep this match tight.

That being said, McDonald covering the games handicap is a value bet.

Value bet/ the best odds: Mackenzie McDonald +2.5 games handicap @1.80 @bet365

Nakashima – Medjedovic: Time TBA
H2H: 0-1

Brandon Nakashima has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in Shanghai, Nakashima lost against Majchrzak in the opening round in straight sets. This will be his debut campaign in Almaty.

Hamad Medjedovic has lost four of his last five matches. He retired mid-match the previous week in Shanghai in the opening round against Rinderknech. This will be his third appearance in Almaty. In his previous appearance in 2023, the Serb lost to Korda in the semifinals.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, this will be an almost 50-50 matchup, but we disagree. Medjedovic struggled with the injuries for the past few months. This will be a perfect opportunity for him to get back to winning ways. We expect him to dominate on his forehand side against Nakashima. Last season in Belgrade, Medjedovic won against the American under similar conditions. We expect a similar outcome tomorrow.

That being said, Medjedovic winning is a value bet.

Value bet/ the best odds: Hamad Medjedovic winning @2.10 @bet365

Vukic – Topo: Time TBA
H2H: first meeting

Aleksandar Vukic has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in Shanghai, Vukic lost to Borges in the opening match in straight sets. The Australian had his most significant results at the Challenger Tour level.

Marko Topo has won four of his last five matches. This week in Almaty, Topo qualified for the main draw tournament. In the final qualifying round, Topo defeated Droguet in three tight sets after playing for over two hours.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, Topo is the underdog in this matchup, but we disagree. The German spent most of his career playing at the Challenger Tour level. His serve was always a solid weapon. If he serves well, we expect him to keep this match close.

That being said, Topo covering the games handicap is a value bet.

Value bet/ the best odds: Marko Topo +2.5 games handicap @2.10 @bet365
