ATP Almaty Final Prediction

Daniil Medvedev vs Corentin Moutet

Head-to-head: Medvedev 1-1 Moutet

It has been an interesting year for Daniil Medvedev. The Russian has a decent win loss record of 34-21 this year but considering it is Medvedev, a year without a title is still a pretty bad year for him. He was at risk of bowing out in yet another semifinal to James Duckworth after losing the first but steamrolled through the last two  to reach his second final of the year after Halle. He will be hoping for a better outcome after a straight-sets defeat in Germany.

He takes on Corentin Moutet for the third time having split their previous two meetings. Moutet has looked like the man in form and is yet to drop a set this week. The Frenchman played well in Hangzhou reaching the last four and this time he has gone one stage ahead.

Having said all that, when it comes to this matchup, Moutet should be the ideal opponent for Medvedev’s baseline game. Moutet doesn’t have a big serve and his baseline game is not aggressive enough to trouble many but what he lacks in power, the Frenchman makes it up with his court coverage and variety. Perhaps that is how he won against Medvedev this year.

Expect a very tight battle between the two with Moutet starting strong but there were positive signs from Medvedev in Shanghai and this week. The Russian should be able to break down Moutet from the baseline and serve big to not let the Frenchman settle on his serve.

Prediction: Medvedev in 3
