It’s only Day 2 of main-draw action in Athens, but opportunities are already opening up for players who can adjust quickly to the conditions. Indoor tennis often rewards those who strike first and play with conviction, and the schedule offers several players a real chance to test that formula as they try to push toward the later rounds. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule. But who will advance?
Head-to-Head: Kecmanovic 3–0 Majchrzak
Kecmanovic has been looking for stability all season, but remains a natural shot-maker on this surface. When he plays proactive tennis and steps inside the baseline, he forces rushed errors. Majchrzak has rebuilt well since his return, but still lacks the volume of high-level matches Kecmanovic has banked. His baseline game can hang in rallies, just not as comfortably when pressured on the backhand. Expect Kecmanovic to try to control patterns early, and over time, that should wear Majchrzak down.
Prediction: Kecmanovic in 2
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Spizzirri impressed in qualifying with aggressive returning and a willingness to finish points at the net. His growth on indoor hard courts is clear. Djere’s defense and improved serve keep him competitive, but he still leans more on consistency than firepower. If he can drag this into physical neutral rallies, momentum should shift his way. Djere may push this close, but Spizzirri’s discipline and athletic edge should tilt the matchup.
Prediction: Spizzirri in 2
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Opelka’s first serve remains a match-changer, and he’s been lowering the error count in his recent return matches. Indoors, he doesn’t need to dominate rallies to create scoreboard pressure. Kopriva is more at home on slower courts and prefers time to sculpt points, which he won’t always get here. If Opelka lands his spots, break chances for Kopriva may be scarce. Expect plenty of short points and tiebreak pressure, but Opelka’s formidable serve should carry him through.
Prediction: Opelka in 2
