Seven intriguing matches are scheduled on Day 3 of the ATP Swiss Indoors Basel, and this article features the in-form Casper Ruud and Felix Auger-Aliassime, who are fighting for a spot at the ATP Finals. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate. But which players will advance?

ATP Basel Day 3 Predictions

Sebastian Korda vs Ugo Humbert

Head-to-Head: Korda 0-1 Humbert

Sebastian Korda played some good tennis last week in Stockholm and was the only player who pushed Casper Ruud to the limit. He is not defending any points this week and can improve his rankings with a deep run. Ugo Humbert also had a positive week in Stockholm as he reached the final. There wasn’t much he could have done against Ruud, who played one of his best matches. Humbert has more experience on indoor hard courts, but Korda is slowly getting back to his best and will be the fresher of the two.
Prediction: Korda in 3

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Gabriel Diallo

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Two-time champion Felix Auger-Aliassime will start his campaign against fellow countryman Gabriel Diallo in what promises to be a thrilling encounter. Auger-Aliassime has played a lot of matches lately and needs to keep winning to keep his hopes alive of reaching the ATP Finals. However, Diallo has become a solid player and won’t make it easy for his older compatriot. Fatigue can be a concern for Auger-Aliassime, but he has been through similar stretches in his career, and I anticipate him finding a way to win.
Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 3

Jakub Mensik vs Joao Fonseca

Head-to-Head: Mensik 0-1 Fonseca

For a second match in a row, 20-year-old Jakub Mensik will face a player younger than him, and this time it will be an even tougher challenge. Mensik was pushed by Henry Bernet in the first round, but he did well to compose himself in the third set. Joao Fonseca, on the other hand, defeated the defending champion with a brilliant performance. Fonseca used the chip return well to get in the points and was clutch when it mattered. These two will play frequently in the future, but in this one, I’m siding with Mensik because of his better consistency and serve.
Prediction: Mensik in 3

Casper Ruud vs Quentin Halys

Head-to-Head: Ruud 2-0 Halys

Every aspect of the game seemed to click for Casper Ruud in Stockholm as he played some of the best tennis of his life. He has lost just one match on indoor hard courts this season, and the way he is playing, it would be difficult for anyone to beat him this week. Quentin Halys can do some damage on fast courts, but he is not in good form. I expect the Norwegian to win this in two tight sets.
Prediction: Ruud in 2
