The matches keep getting better with each day at the ATP Swiss Indoors Basel, and Day 4 brings six intriguing second-round matches. This article features #4 seed Casper Ruud, who will face local star Stan Wawrinka for the second time at this tournament. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate. But who will advance?

ATP Basel Day 4 Predictions

Denis Shapovalov vs Valentin Royer

Head-to-Head: Shapovalov 1-0 Royer

Denis Shapovalov pulled through an extremely tight match against Marcos Giron to reach the second round. He has shown some good mental resilience in the last few weeks and has been rewarded for it. Valentin Royer made the most of his second chance as a lucky loser as he defeated Raphael Collignon in straight sets. This match will be on Shapovalov’s racquet, and if he stays focused, he should win.
Prediction: Shapovalov in 2

Ben Shelton vs Jaume Munar

Head-to-Head: Shelton 1-2 Munar

#2 seed and last year’s finalist Ben Shelton almost (and should have) lost in the first round to Kamil Majchrzak, who missed an easy shot to close out the match in the third set tiebreak. It was a high-quality match from both players, and Shelton should be relieved to come out with a win. He faces another stern task in Jaume Munar, who has defeated the American twice this year and is playing the best hard-court tennis of his life. This should be a competitive match, but I believe Shelton will learn from his previous losses and play a great match.
Prediction: Shelton in 3

Casper Ruud vs Stan Wawrinka

Head-to-Head: Ruud 0-1 Wawrinka

Casper Ruud continues his great form as he battled past Quentin Halys in straight sets. The second set was close, but Ruud played a good tiebreak to seal the win. Stan Wawrinka put on a show for the local fans and registered his first hard-court win of the season. He played some vintage shots against Miomir Kecmanovic, but the task will be a lot tougher against the in-form Ruud. The Norwegian has lost to Wawrinka before at this very venue, but he will back himself to win this time. The 40-year-old will struggle with Ruud’s physicality and consistency.
Prediction: Ruud in 3
