Day 2 of the ATP China Open promises intense action for the fans as some big names clash with solid opponents. This article features former finalist Daniil Medvedev, who will take on Cameron Norrie. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate. But which players will advance?
Head-to-Head: Mensik 1-0 Kecmanovic
20-year-old Jakub Mensik has lost his rhythm since winning the Miami Masters, which is not a big surprise for a young player. However, he can finish the season strongly if he can find his best level again. Miomir Kecmanovic is capable of winning this match, but his inconsistency costs him more often than not. Both players are looking for their first win at the China Open, and I am giving a slight edge to Mensik.
Prediction: Mensik in 3
Head-to-Head: Rublev 0-1 Cobolli
Andrey Rublev’s Asian swing is off to a bad start as Valentin Royer upset him in the first round of the Hangzhou Open. Rublev will be looking to make an impact this week, but he has to deal with a tricky first round. Flavio Cobolli has already beaten the Russian player this season and has the level to replicate it. Hard courts favor Rublev, but not when they are on the slower side. I am expecting a battle here with Cobolli edging it out in the end.
Prediction: Cobolli in 3
Head-to-Head: Medvedev 4-1 Norrie
Daniil Medvedev is at a stage in his career where he can lose to anyone but is still capable of great tennis. He had never dropped a set to Cameron Norrie until the last time they played, when Norrie won. The slower conditions imply a slugfest between these two, although Medvedev’s odds look better here than on a clay court. The former US Open champion has only lost to Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at this tournament and will be eyeing revenge.
Prediction: Medvedev in 3
