We are into the final and the most essential ATP event of the season. Although the Grand Slams carry their own prestige and are the fundamental aspects of a tennis player’s calendar. However, the ATP Finals test your ability to turn up against the best players in the world consistently. So, what are the top 3 biggest contenders for this year’s event? Let’s break it down:
Who else to start than the most decorated ATP Finals champion in history? Novak Djokovic is technically on a 10-match winning streak in Turin, having won titles in both 2022 and 2023. The 2023 title win was historic, as he surpassed Roger Federer‘s tally of six ATP Finals titles.
However, he skipped last year’s event despite qualifying. Although he has yet to announce his participation, he remains a contender. The big problem surrounding him is that two players have been better than him.
Despite Sinner’s and Alcaraz’s dominance, Djokovic knows that players are not at maximum capacity during the tail end of the season. Considering he’s well rested and has only played a couple of events after the US Open, he can take advantage if the draw opens up for him.
Carlos Alcaraz is the most prolific player of the 2025 season. The Spaniard has won a career-best eight titles this season, which includes two Grand Slams and three Masters 1000s. He has also shown prowess in the indoor conditions, winning titles at Rotterdam and Tokyo, respectively.
ATP Finals is one of the big tournaments he has yet to win. His best result came in 2023, when he reached the semifinals. Most importantly, he is playing for the World No. 1 ranking. He needs to win three matches to secure the year-end No.1 ranking.
If he wins the ATP Finals, he will do something that not even Rafael Nadal was able to do. Considering he has had the number of Jannik Sinner across all surfaces, he won’t be afraid to take on the Italian if both players come up against each other in the final.
Jannik Sinner is the undisputed king of indoor hard courts. The Italian has won over 25 consecutive matches on this surface and goes into this tournament as the undisputed favorite.
Sinner comes into this tournament after title wins in Vienna and Paris. His last defeat in a fully completed match came against Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open final. It’s safe to say that the Italian’s biggest opponent in Turin could be his body. He has shown physical problems in Shanghai and Vienna.
Just like Alcaraz, Sinner is also battling for the year-end World No.1 ranking. For that, he needs to win the tournament and hope Alcaraz doesn’t win three matches in the event.
