Day 2 of the Generali Open in Kitzbuhel, Austria, is stacked with entertaining matches as all the remaining first-round matches will be played. This article features the #5 seed, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who will take on former finalist and home player Filip Misolic. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate. But who will advance?
Head-to-Head: Faria 0-1 Tirante
Jaime Faria has shown his upside multiple times this season, but consistency has been a problem, and he will want to improve on that. His aggressive play style and big first serve are lethal weapons, but he is prone to making errors. Thiago Agustin Tirante is looking for his second Tour-level win of the season, and recent performances in Challenger events suggest he is ready for a big week. Tirante won their only meeting and is the slight favourite to me again.
Prediction: Tirante in 3
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Yannick Hanfmann has had a tough season so far, but looks good to make a deep run in one of his most successful tournaments. The German player is a former Generali Open finalist and has qualified for the main draw without dropping a set. He has a tough first-round match against local player Lukas Neumayer, who likes to extend rallies and will be motivated to display his best tennis in front of his home crowd. However, Hanfmann’s experience and success in this event give him the edge.
Prediction: Hanfmann in 3
Head-to-Head: Struff 1-2 Ofner
Jan-Lennard Struff’s 2025 season has been challenging, with a win percentage of just 28%, his worst since 2015. However, a good showing at Wimbledon and qualifying for the main draw here must have given him some confidence, and when he is playing well, he is a menace to deal with. Sebastian Ofner has won nine Tour-level matches this season, and seven of them have come on clay. He has defeated Struff in their last two meetings, the most recent coming at the French Open first round. Struff will look to take revenge, but Ofner will be extra motivated playing on his home soil. Should be a close match, but I am going with the Austrian.
Prediction: Ofner in 3
Head-to-Head: first meeting
2023 semifinalist and #5 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry will take on 2022 finalist Filip Misolic in one of the matches of the day. Etcheverry was playing some good tennis before the French Open and will look to improve on his rather below-par season. He does not have any points to defend this week and can get back inside the Top 50 with a deep run. However, he faces a stern test in the form of Filip Misolic, who is in good form and knows the conditions well here. Both players are capable of winning this, but the home advantage might make a difference in Misolic’s favor.
Prediction: Misolic in 3
