The second day of the ATP Masters in Paris is loaded with yet another round of mouth-watering matches, and the fans trooping to the La Défense Arena will certainly be entertained with the array of talent lined up for the second day. As always, we here at LWOT offer our predictions on who will advance.

ATP Paris Day 2 Predictions

Tomas Martin Etcheverry vs Camilo Ugo Carabelli

Head–to–Head: Etcheverry 2 – 0 Ugo Carabelli

Tomas Martin Etchevery secured his spot in the tournament after two comfortable victories against Pedro Martinez and Jesper de Jong, and he will now face his compatriot Camilo Ugo Carabelli, who has lost seven of his last eight matches.

Both are primarily clay court players, but Etcheverry has shown a greater affinity for hard courts, as evidenced by his recent results, and he also defeated Carabelli in straight sets in their only match on the surface at the US Open. Expect the younger Argentine to wrap this one up comfortably.
Prediction: Etcheverry in 2

Denis Shapovalov vs Joao Fonseca

Head–to–Head:  Shapovalov 0 – 1 Fonseca

Denis Shapovalov will aim to finish the season strongly in Paris after achieving some solid results in his last two indoor tournaments. He reached the semifinals in Stockholm, but withdrew from his quarterfinal match in Basel, leaving the seriousness of the injury unclear, as he didn’t appear to be in physical distress.

That match was against Joao Fonseca, and Shapovalov is set to meet him again just days later. The Brazilian claimed the second title of his career at the tournament, defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final. The 19-year-old has now entered the Top 30 of rankings for the first time.

Shapovalov’s aggressive style is well-suited to indoor matches, but he is up against an opponent who can even hit harder than him from the baseline. Either this match comes too soon for the Brazilian, or he carries the Basel momentum to Paris. I’ll reckon with the latter.
Prediction: Fonseca in 2

Tallon Griekspoor vs Gabriel Diallo

Head–to–Head: Griekspoor 2 – 0 Diallo

Tallon Griekspoor regained some form in Vienna last week, surging to the semifinal, but unfortunately had to withdraw due to a back injury. Like Griekspoor, Diallo too had been struggling since he won his maiden title in June. The stats favour the Dutchman, and he has defeated the Canadian in their two meetings, although this will be their first match on hard courts.

Griekspoor has cleared this hurdle twice before, and if his injury is behind him, he should be putting Diallo there too.
Prediction: Griekspoor in 3

Félix Auger-Aliassime vs Francisco Comesana

Head–to–Head: Auger-Aliassime 2 – 0 Baez

Felix Auger-Aliassime made an excellent start to the European indoor swing by winning the title in Brussels. He was aiming for his third title in Basel last week but was forced to retire due to a back injury. Still, he has reached at least the quarterfinal in each of his previous five events, which gives him an outside chance of still making it to Turin.

His opponent, Francisco Comesana, is one of the few players who has shown a seamless transition from clay to hard courts, and this venue presents another step in that journey.

That being said, as long as the Canadian is healthy and prepared, he will win this one. Comesana won’t be a spectator, though.
Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 2
