Rafael Nadal recently made it to the finals of an ATP tournament for the first time since 2022 Roland Garros. After an amazing week at the Nordea Open, the Spaniard has made huge progress in his rankings.
Having missed almost all of 2023 due to injury, Nadal started the year ranked World No. 672. His position did not improve for a few months as he was sidelined for a long period due to another injury.
However, after playing a couple of matches in selected tournaments, Nadal managed to move up to No. 261 before the Nordea Open. In Bastad, he won four matches on the bounce to reach the final, where he lost in straight sets to Nuno Borges.
Thanks to the runner-up finish, Nadal is now ranked World No. 161. He will break into the Top 100 once again if he manages a few good runs in the future.
Beating all odds and predictions, Rafael Nadal made it to the Nordea Open final. However, he failed to match Nuno Borges in the title match and had to settle for a runner-up finish. After the defeat, the Spaniard admitted that he was unhappy with his performance against the Portuguese.
The level was so far from what it should be. Probably the energy too.
Rafael Nadal told reporters in Bastad
Nadal is set to take part in both the singles and doubles at the Paris Olympics. While he is yet to look his best in the singles, he will be able to rely on Carlos Alcaraz in the doubles and fight for the gold medal.
