H2H: first meeting
Arthur Rinderknech has won six straight matches. Last week in Beijing, Rinderknech lost to de Minaur in the 1/8-Finals in three tight sets. This week in Shanghai, Medjedovic retired mid-match against the Frenchman in the opening round. In the second round, Rinderknech defeated Michelsen in straight sets. He trailed 2-4 in the second set, but won four straight games and turned the set around. Rinderknech upset Zverev in the third round, after losing the opening set 4-6. He offered three breakpoints altogether in the second and third sets and saved them all. In the 1/8-Finals, Rinderknech defeated Lehecka in straight sets. He served once again well, not offering any breakpoints. Auger-Aliassime was the favourite in the quarterfinal clash against the Frenchman. However, once again, Rinderknech played his best tennis and won in straight sets. He offered and saved all three breakpoints.
His toughest challenge came in the semifinals against Medvedev. After playing for almost three hours, Rinderknech won against Medvedev in three tight sets. After losing the opening set 4-6, the Frenchman reduced his unforced errors and increased his first serve percentage, which was a recipe for a comeback win against the Russian.
Valentin Vacherot has won eight straight matches. This week in Shanghai, Vacherot qualified for the main draw tournament. In the final qualifying round, Vacherot defeated Draxl in three tight sets. In the opening main draw round, Vacherot won against Djere in straight sets. He served well, not offering any breakpoints. His toughest challenge happened in the second round against Bublik. After losing the opening set 3-6, Vacherot turned the match around and won in three tight sets. Machac retired mid-match against Vacherot in the third round. In the 1/8-Finals, Vacherot upset Griekspoor in three tight sets, after losing the opening set 4-6. It seemed as if everything was over for Vacherot in the quarterfinals against Rune. After losing the opening set 2-6, Vacherot once again turned the match around. He fought three hours for a well-deserved win.
His most significant win happened today in the semifinals against Novak Djokovic. Vacherot once again surprised everyone and defeated the Serb in straight sets. Besides losing his serve at the beginning of the match, Vacherot dominated. He offered only two breakpoints throughout the match.
According to the bookies, Rinderknech is the slight favourite in this matchup, but we disagree. Both players played their best tennis here in Shanghai. Vacherot has a heavy serve, and if he serves well, we expect him to keep this match tight.
That being said, Vacherot covering the games handicap is a value bet.
Value bet/ the best odds: Valentin Vacherot +2.5 games handicap @1.73 @bet365
We expect a tight match that could go either way. Both players have a strong serve, and we expect at least one tiebreak in this clash.
That being said, at least one tiebreak in the match is a value bet.
Value bet/ the best odds: over 0.5 tiebreaks @1.54 @bet365
