Ben Shelton lost his finals to the German, Alexander Zverev, in Munich earlier this week. The American has had a pretty decent year in 2025, racking up some deep runs into tournaments and getting closer to breaking into the top ten of the ATP rankings.

However, Ben Shelton’s actions and controversial comments in Monte Carlo, did not die down, as his fellow ATP player accused him on his unruly behavior and demeaning attitude.

For those who do not know, Ben Shelton’s booming body shots during his doubles encounter alongside Rohan Bopanna, fractured the rib of his opponent Andrea Vavassori. While Ben Shelton, mocked the whole ordeal and called Andrea ‘so soft’ and even pulled up his T-shirt to show his abs, Vavassori did not take those comments lightly.

Not only did Vavassori have to withdraw from the tournament, he now has to take a minor break from tennis after finding a hairline crack in his ribs. This has enraged Andrea and he did not mince his words as he said that Ben Shelton making fun of him after getting injured, was not ethical.

“I think it's over with Shelton, even for the future. In general. I didn't like how he behaved,” said Andrea as reported by the Italian media. “Then it depends on him, if he comes and apologizes after making fun of me for causing me a rib fracture... I'm someone who always forgives; I can forget things even immediately but if he doesn't take a step, I certainly won't," he added.

While Andrea is used to getting hit on the doubles court, what he did not like was Ben Shelton’s mockery right after the match. And the fact that there hasn’t been an apology yet from the American tennis star, makes the situation even more tense.

"I'm absolutely not a doubles player who says you shouldn't shoot at me, but I told him- be careful when you shoot so hard, so close,” said Andrea Vavassori. “You can hurt people on the court. And you hurt me, something in my rib for sure. I was [expletive] off for getting injured and watching the video I was sorry that he taunted me- he basically hurt me and he also made fun of me," he added.

Shelton, with his aggressive nature and demonstrative on-court personality, has had controversy surrounding him before, such as a high-profile encounter with Novak Djokovic at the US Open. This recent occurrence is another piece of evidence that fuels the debate around his behavior on the court.

The tennis world is closely following any new developments, and it is yet to be seen if Shelton speaks up about the incident or if this is a permanent fall-out between the two players.
