Bianca Andreescu won't play in French Open or rest of 2020 season

Canadian Bianca Andreescu confirmed on Tuesday that she will sit out the French Open main draw that begins on Sunday and also the remainder of the 2020 tennis season as she continues to recover from the knee injury she suffered in last October's WTA Finals.

The 20-year-old, who won the 2019 US Open, missed this year's Australian Open and didn't return to competitive play before tennis competitions around the world shut down in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. On Aug. 13, Andreescu explained why she wouldn't attempt to defend her title in New York.

Despite her absences, Andreescu remains ranked No. 7 in the world.

World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty and No. 3 Naomi Osaka previously withdrew from the French Open.
