Cahill out, Moya in: Jannik Sinner replaces longtime coach with Rafael Nadal’s right-hand man
IPA

Jannik Sinner is reportedly set to add a significant name to his coaching team: Carlos Moyá, former coach of Rafael Nadal and captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team. Moyá brings a wealth of experience, having reached world No. 1 in 1999 and winning Roland Garros in 1998.

This move comes as Moyá is expected to replace Darren Cahill, the Australian coach who has been with Sinner for the past few years and announced that this would be his final season as a full-time tour coach for the world No. 1. Cahill has a storied career, having previously worked with high-profile players like Andy Murray, Ana Ivanovic, Lleyton Hewitt, and Simona Halep.

After Sinner's Australian Open title win earlier this year, the news broke that this season would be his last with Cahill, due to the Australian's personal priorities and desire to spend more time with his family after decades of extensive travel on the ATP Tour. Sinner will continue to work with Simone Vagnozzi as his head coach, with Moyá reportedly stepping into a co-coach role, a successful formula Sinner has employed before.

The choice of Moyá is a fascinating one, given his extensive experience on Tour and his potential to significantly contribute to Sinner's game, especially on clay courts. His past collaboration with Rafael Nadal, particularly during the latter part of the 22-time Grand Slam champion's career, is a notable highlight.

Furthermore, Moya's close work with Carlos Alcaraz – perhaps a factor Sinner considered – could provide valuable insights for facing his great rival. Just last Sunday, Sinner lost to Alcaraz in the Rome Open final, with the Spaniard now leading their head-to-head 7-4 and having won their last four consecutive encounters.
