Carlos Alcaraz took a step closer to winning the Wimbledon Championship for the third time by reaching the semi-finals of the tournament. The 22-year-old is now unbeaten in 23 matches for the first time in his career. During his press conference at the All England Club, he revealed how he felt being unbeaten since April.

Alcaraz last lost a tour-level match at the Barcelona Open final when he fell to Holger Rune in straight sets. That defeat was his only loss since falling to David Goffin at the Miami Open in March. The Spaniard has been impressive since then, winning four titles in the space of three months on tour.

He continued with his form at the Wimbledon Championship, beating Fabio Fognini in the first round in a five-set thriller before beating Oliver Tarvet in straight sets. In the third round, he had to battle hard past German star Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the fourth round, where he came from behind to defeat Andrey Rublev.

On Tuesday (July 9), he gave a masterclass performance to ensure that he reached the consecutive Wimbledon semi-finals. The World No.2 saved all five of the break points he faced against British star Cameron Norrie, winning 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 in just an hour and 39 minutes at the Center Court. The win also ensured he sealed his 23-match winning streak on tour, the longest in his career.

After the match against Norrie, he admitted that he doesn’t want to stop winning as he dreams of continuing the winning streak. He added that he wants to enjoy every moment he walks on the court against an opponent:

I don’t want to stop there, I just want to continue like this. At every moment of the season, of the year, we end up thinking about some objectives against each opponent. Right now, my serve is the element that players target against me, what they really want to overcome. I’m happy about it. As I said, 23, I don’t want to stop there. When I start enjoying the match, enjoying the moment, my good level appears. The key has been that I haven’t thought about anything.

Alcaraz will now seek to extend his winning streak by beating Taylor Fritz in the semi-final of the Wimbledon Championship. The Spaniard holds a 2-0 lead against the American in their head-to-head record. However, this is Fritz’s semi-final at the All England Club and he will be seeking to upset the defending champion.

Carlos Alcaraz happy with the way he has evolved at Wimbledon

Carlos Alcaraz has had to suffer sometimes and avoid an upset at Wimbledon. The 22-year-old nearly saw his dreams of defending the Wimbledon title crushed after Fabio Fognini played one of his best matches in the tournament. He also escaped another scare (not as intense as Round 1) against Jan-Lennard Struff and Andrey Rublev.

However, those matches have made Alcaraz stronger on the court. The comeback victories have also instilled more confidence in his game. He revealed this after his win against Cameron Norrie:

The truth is that I feel very good. Every match is different against a different player. Each player brings a different level to the match. It’s hard to compare to last year’s level, but what I can say right now is that my confidence is very high, honestly. I feel great. Today’s match has been the best of the tournament so far.

Alcaraz is seeking to become the second man in the Open Era to win the Roland Garros and Wimbledon for the second consecutive time. The only player to do that was Swedish legend Bjorn Borg .
