Carlos Alcaraz is into the Wimbledon final for the third consecutive time! On Friday (July 11), the Spaniard overcame fifth seed Taylor Fritz 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(6) in two hours and 48 minutes.
Alcaraz has now improved his winning streak to a career-best 24 matches. Prior to reaching Wimbledon, the 22-year-old lifted the Italian Open, the French Open, and the Queen’s Club Championships. During his on-court interview, Alcaraz was asked how he is continuing to find joy in his tennis. The youngster said that he doesn’t think about the stats as it’s only his dream of playing tennis that matters to him.
Well, it’s just a…no thinking about those things. You know, I think that’s the first thing. No thinking about the winning streak, no thinking about the results.
The five-time Grand Slam champion is bidding to join Bjorn Borg and become the second man in the Open Era to complete the Channel Slam in consecutive years. Borg did this from 1978 to 1980. Alcaraz defended his French Open title by overcoming his arch-rival Jannik Sinner in a five-hour, 29-minute battle after saving three championship points in the fourth set.
It’s just a…this is my dream, you know, the dream is just to be on these courts, these beautiful courts, just playing tennis in the most beautiful tournament in the world. That’s all I try to think, you know, in every tournament. And I think that’s why I bring the joy to the courts.
Carlos Alcaraz added
Alcaraz has now improved his head-to-head record over Fritz to 3-0. Fritz, who has now played his first-ever Wimbledon semifinal, was aiming to win his sixth title on grass and his second on the surface this season following his victories at the Stuttgart Open and the Eastbourne International.

Carlos Alcaraz, in the Wimbledon final, will not face an easy opponent, because his opponent will be either Novak Djokovic or Jannik Sinner. Alcaraz holds an 8-4 head-to-head record over the Italian ace, but against the 24-time Grand Slam champion, he trails 3-5 in head-to-head matchups.
This is one of the most exciting matchups we have on tour right now. Djokovic against Jannik. So, as a huge fan of tennis, I’m gonna try to watch as much as can. You know, right now, I have to do a lot of things…press and other stuff. But I will try to find the time just to enjoy that match.
Carlos Alcaraz said during his on-court interview
Alcaraz has won his last five matches against Sinner, including two times this year- in the Italian Open and the French Open finals. This season, Alcaraz has met Djokovic only once and lost that match.
Djokovic and Sinner, before the Wimbledon semifinal, faced each other nine times, with the latter holding a head-to-head edge of 5-4. It was Sinner who denied the seven-time Wimbledon champion a chance to win his historic 25th Grand Slam title by knocking him out of the French Open semifinal.
Sinner is aiming to reach the Wimbledon final for the first time. Djokovic, before this season, played every final here since 2018, losing only in the last two seasons, to Alcaraz. Both Djokovic and Sinner are bidding to win their second title of the season. The latter had defended his Australian Open title, while Nole claimed his career’s 100th singles title by winning the Geneva Open.
Djokovic last won a Major at the 2023 US Open and is the last player other than the two young rivals to take home a Grand Slam title. Sinner and Alcaraz have shared the last six Majors between them.
