Carlos Alcaraz has overlooked Rafael Nadal when naming the player with the best forehand in ATP history.
The two Spaniards have often been linked, not just for their shared nationality, but also for how quickly they made an impact in the sport.
They even played doubles together at the Paris Olympics last year, adding another layer to their connection.
While Nadal has continued to support Alcaraz even after stepping away from professional tennis, it was not enough for him to get the nod from his fellow Spaniard as having the greatest forehand ever.
While many consider Nadal to have the best forehand in history, thanks to his signature heavy topspin shot, Alcaraz chose another path during an interview with AS TV.
He went with Juan Martin del Potro, a player known for his powerful game. Del Potro won the US Open in 2009 and was expected to win more majors before injuries limited his career.
Alcaraz also picked Jannik Sinner for the best backhand when building his ideal player. For volleying, he went with Roger Federer, chose himself for footwork, and gave Novak Djokovic the nod for shot selection.

Nadal was not left out completely. Alcaraz selected him as having the strongest mentality, and shared tactical honours with Djokovic.
This is not the first time Alcaraz has been asked about comparing his forehand to Nadal’s. During the Six Kings Slam last year, he was put on the spot again.
This time around, rather than choosing himself, he leaned towards humility but did not rule out that things could change down the road.
“I am at the start of my career so I have to choose Rafa’s forehand at the moment.
“But I am really happy with my forehand as well, so let’s see at the end of my career who has a better forehand,” he stated.
Looking ahead, Alcaraz aims to secure his first ATP Finals title this year, a feat that eluded Nadal throughout his career.
The 22-year-old will face Taylor Fritz in his second round-robin match, with the hope of ending Spain’s 17-year title drought at the ATP Finals.
