Carlos Moya has officially disclosed the authenticity surrounding his future joining Jannik Sinner’s team. The Spaniard has categorically denied any movement on this, according to Spanish outlets. Moya, the former Roland Garros champion, has been without coaching work since Rafael Nadal retired in October 2024.
However, in the past 24 hours, there have been rumors linking him with Sinner once the Italian bids farewell to Darren Cahill after the 2025 season. The Australian coach will end his coaching career after the 2025 season with the current World No. 1. He has previously coached many top players, such as Simona Halep.
According to reports from The Tennis Letter, Moya said, “This is totally false.” Hence, Sinner’s hunt for a new coach continues. His intentions are likely to improve his game on non-hard court surfaces, particularly clay, where he has yet to win an important title. The Italian remains without a Masters 1000 or a Grand Slam on this surface. Moreover, he withdrew from the Paris Olympics last year due to a viral infection. His best result came at the Italian Open last week, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz.
Moya has been previously linked with Nadal, spending an eight-year working relationship with the left-hander after joining in 2016. He replaced Toni Nadal, who was Rafa’s uncle and was his long-term coach. Together, Moya and Nadal won eight Grand Slam titles. Meanwhile, Toni went on to coach Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Sinner already saw an overhaul of his coaching setup after last year’s doping scandal. Simone Vagnozzi has been the main addition to his team, as he removed his physiotherapist and trainer, Giacomo Naldi. Naldi, however, blamed the doping system for ruining his image in this fiasco.
However, Cahill’s replacement has yet to be identified. Perhaps Moya didn’t want to put himself in a similar boat as Goran Ivanisevic did with Elena Rybakina. The Croatian, who was previously the coach of Novak Djokovic, signed up to be Rybakina’s coach but left after one month due to the return of Stefano Vukov. Sinner has also been controversial since his doping scandal, and Moya perhaps understands that.
