Coco Gauff Makes Request After French Open
© Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images

Coco Gauff just wants one thing in her return to American soil following her incredible run in Paris for the French Open.

Gauff beat World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the French Open final, although it wasn't easy as she needed all three sets to take the 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 victory.

Sabalenka's uncharacteristic performance — highlighted by her 70 unforced errors — allowed Gauff to come back after losing the first set. The 21-year-old's defense and lob shots were also phenomenal, further throwing the Belarusian star off her game.

With the win, Gauff secured her first French Open title after finishing as a runner-up in 2022. It's also her second Grand Slam trophy, having won the US Open in 2023.

On Sunday, the World No. 2 revealed through her Instagram Stories that she is back in the U.S. and has landed in New York. Interestingly, what stood out from her update was the food request she made.

Clearly, Gauff missed eating chicken wings.

"back in the usa, someone get me some chicken wings," Gauff wrote.

Sure enough, Coco Gauff deserves to eat any food that she wants following her French Open win. After all, she made history in the process.

Gauff is just the fifth American woman to win multiple singles Grand Slam titles in the Open era at age 21 or younger, joining Serena Williams, Chris Evert, Venus Williams and Tracy Austin.

Furthermore, she's the first American woman to claim the French Open title since Serena Williams did so in 2015.

Third time’s the charm?: Anna Kalinskaya books another final after ousting Emma Raducanu

Anna Kalinskaya overcame Emma Raducanu in the DC Open semifinals, securing a spot in a final once again as she searches for her maiden WTA title. The 26-year-old delivered another strong performance, taking another straight-sets victory and frustrating the Brit's desire to reach her first final since the 2021 US Open. It was no easy challenge for the Russian, who has had a difficult past year. After reaching her career-high ranking of world No. 14 back in 2024, Kalinskaya experienced a significant drop in the rankings over recent months, currently sitting at just No. 48. What's most striking is that Kalinskaya has yet to claim a WTA trophy. She has faltered in both finals she reached: first at the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2024, where she was defeated by Italian Jasmine Paolini in a three-set battle. A few months later, she reached the final of the Berlin Ladies Open, this time falling to Jessica Pegula in a third-set tie-break. This time she'll have another chance, against Canadian Leylah Fernandez. The Canadian defeated Elena Rybakina in the semifinals and was awaiting a potential rematch against Raducanu – with whom she contested the 2021 US Open final. However, Kalinskaya prevailed in a notable performance against the 22-year-old Brit. Kalinskaya's mental toughness prevails over Raducanu First Set Anna Kalinskaya displayed mental fortitude in a tight match against Raducanu, managing to pull ahead in critical moments. In the first set, everything remained even at the start, with neither showing any weakness on serve. With the score at 3-2 in favor of Raducanu, the first break opportunities arrived, but Kalinskaya saved both to maintain parity. With Raducanu starting to struggle on serve, Kalinskaya found a couple of opportunities at 4-4, and this time she was effective on return, securing the crucial break. There were doubts when she had to close out the set, but she overcame a 15-40 deficit to take a 6-4 lead, showing good consistency on serve and capitalizing on her opponent's second serves. Second Set Into the second set, Kalinskaya started in the best possible way by getting an immediate break, but then her serve security seemed to drop, going from 70% effectiveness on her first serve to just 59% throughout the set, which ultimately cost her an immediate break back to love. The former world No. 14 had to fight harder in her service games, but she managed not to falter despite Raducanu appearing to have better chances this time. However, at 3-2, Raducanu hesitated, and Kalinskaya responded. A break in the third game gave her the definitive lead. Although Kalinskaya faced a break point against her a couple of games later, it was too late for Raducanu. The Russian secured the victory 6-4, 6-3 and guaranteed her spot in the tournament final. Match Statistics Kalinskaya vs. Raducanu Final Ascent: Kalinskaya and Fernandez set for DC Open title clash Kalinskaya has guaranteed a significant 17-position climb in the ranking, currently sitting at world No. 31, displacing Raducanu to No. 33. The Russian will be seeking her first singles title after falling in her first two finals during 2024. As for Fernandez, reaching the final also provides a boost in her ranking, positioning her at world No. 27 for now. Should she win the title, she will advance several more positions to No. 24. After the 2021 US Open, Raducanu stole the spotlight, but Leylah Fernandez continued to work to establish her level on the tour. She reached a career-high ranking of world No. 13 and has won two titles since then (Monterrey 2022, Hong Kong 2023), in addition to falling in the final of the Eastbourne International two months ago against Daria Kasatkina. She has accumulated several deep runs in major tournaments, including a quarterfinal appearance at Roland Garros and three others at WTA 1000 events.

Aaron Rodgers responds to criticism from Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw

The Pittsburgh Steelers' signing of quarterback Aaron Rodgers was an immediately polarizing move that did not sit well with large portions of the fan base. It also did not sit well with one of the team's all-time greatest players, four-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Terry Bradshaw. Bradshaw initially referred to the signing of Rodgers as a "joke" and that he should "stay in California and go chew bark" in reference to Rodgers isolating himself in a darkness retreat last year. On Saturday, Rodgers finally had a chance to respond to Bradshaw and did so with a combination of taking the high road, and also trying to make light of it. “I whisper to the gods every single day. I’ve known Terry for a long time, being a part of Fox. Terry’s a legend. He’s an absolute legend. He won four Super Bowls. He’s had a legendary career in the media. But Terry, like a lot of people, doesn’t know me. And so, he’s got an idea of what he thinks about me based on what I’ve done, the documentary, what I’ve said, darkness retreat, whatever the hell you want to talk about. I’d love to get to know Terry on a deeper level. I feel like if he gave me a chance to get to know him, then we’d have a good friendship." He ended the answer by saying, "So, I’d love to get to know Terry on a deeper level if he’s open to it. And maybe we can go chew some bark or whatever the hell he’s talking about together.” The Steelers were in a pretty desperate quarterback situation this offseason after completely overhauling the position for a second year in a row. They missed out on the chance to re-sign Justin Fields, let Russell Wilson walk, missed out on every other veteran who changed teams and passed on the opportunity to select a quarterback near the top of a weak quarterback draft class. (They ultimately selected Ohio State's Will Howard in the sixth round.) The whole Rodgers saga has been quite a soap opera for the Steelers as they waited around for months while he decided on whether or not he wanted to play this season, and if he wanted to play for the Steelers. Add in the fact he has had a tendency to cause some off-field distractions with his comments and weekly "Pat McAfee Show" appearances, as well as the fact he will turn 42 years old this season and hasn't been a top-tier quarterback in three years, and a lot of Steelers fans — and former players — were put off by the idea. The only thing that will matter in the end, however, is how Rodgers plays on the field. He has said all of the right things since joining the team, and his new teammates have all spoken highly of him so far, but it will still come down to results on the field. The Steelers have not won a playoff game in eight years and are facing added pressure each year to end that drought. They are hoping Rodgers has one more good year in him to help them advance in the postseason.

'In what world does this make sense?’: Oilers and $63M forward

According to some, throw out the idea that the Edmonton Oilers should pursue Max Pacioretty. A veteran forward who has earned over $63 million over the course of his NHL career has yet to sign an NHL contract and was recently mentioned in a post by David Staples as a possible fit. In a recent post, the Journal noted, “All of the top NHL unrestricted free agents have already signed contracts, but there’s one big name player still available that makes good sense for the Edmonton Oilers to pursue.” Responses have been varied, with a few quite vocal about the Oilers not following Staples’ advice. “In what world does this make sense?????” writes a commenter on a recent post for The Hockey Writers. Another commenter wrote, “Pacioretty is a good journeyman player but he is injury prone now, late in his career. Oilers might be lucky to get 40 games out of him. They should look elsewhere instead of taking a chance on Patches.” Tyler Yaremchuk of Oilers Nation chimed in and said, “He scored five goals in 37 games last year with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Can’t stay healthy, very old, very slow.” Yaremchuk then went on a rant, listing several Oilers forwards who would be better than Pacioretty. What About Pacioretty on a PTO? Is there any reason that a team that is looking to get younger and faster, and move out depth pieces that were older and less productive than expected, would revert back to last summer’s strategy? It seems like an odd choice on the surface. Something would have to happen that would make giving Pacioretty a look risk-free. That means only a PTO. Even at that point, should he agree, it would require him to be willing to sign a two-way contract for the league minimum.

Mariners' Cal Raleigh makes history with 40th home run

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh clubbed his 40th home run of the season on Saturday night against the Los Angeles Angels, not only extending his major league lead but also making him the first player in baseball to reach the 40-home run mark this season. It also helped him make some history. With his 40th home run, Raleigh became both the first catcher and the first switch-hitter in baseball history to reach the 40 home run mark before the end of July. Here is a look at his 40th home run. He is already in the process of having one of the best seasons ever for a Mariners player, and also one of the best seasons ever for a catcher, for any team. Especially when you add in his defense, where he is one of the best defensive catchers in the league. His only serious competition for the American League MVP Award remains New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge. But with Judge sidelined for a period of time now due to an elbow injury, it might open the door for Raleigh to really put himself in the lead for that award.
