On Thursday, 23-year-old Amanda Anisimova stunned world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory to advance to her first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon. The final took place Saturday morning against Polish star Iga Swiatek.
However, the version of Anisimova that impressed fans on Thursday looked drastically different against Swiatek.
Anisimova fell in shocking fashion, losing 6-0, 6-0 in just 57 minutes—the first time in 114 years that a women’s Wimbledon final ended with one player failing to win a single game.
Following the defeat, Anisimova received a message of support from tennis star and 2025 French Open champion Coco Gauff, who was surprisingly eliminated in the first round at Wimbledon.
So much to be proud of Amanda," Gauff wrote. "Keep your head up."

Nonetheless, with her performance throughout the tournament, Amanda Anisimova proved just how talented she is and offered a glimpse of what could lie ahead in her career. As a result, she is set to break into the top 10 in the world rankings for the first time next week.
Coco Gauff also took a moment to congratulate Iga Switaek on her dominant victory, which marked the first Wimbledon title of her career. With the win, Swiatek becomes the eighth consecutive first-time women’s champion at Wimbledon.
“Congratulations @iga_swiatek on an incredible run!” Gauff posted
