Juneteenth is an official federal holiday in the United States that celebrates the abolition of slavery, as on June 19, 1865 Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas. The historic day is now celebrated in America, and it holds a more special meaning for members of the Black community.

Gauff celebrates black heritage with uplifting message

The reigning French Open champion took to Twitter and Instagram to commemorate the occasion. In addition to wishing everyone a Happy Juneteenth, Gauff added a heartfelt message that advocated fighting for freedom.

"happy juneteenth" Gauff posted on Twitter.

"Freedom for all is worth celebrating. Happy Juneteenth!" read a message shared by Gauff on Instagram.

The World No.2 is coming off her second Grand Slam title after defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the final of this month's Roland Garros event. However, Gauff fell to China's Xinyu Wang in her opening round match at the ongoing Berlin Ladies Open. The American tennis star will now have less than two weeks to finalize her preparations for the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.
