Coco Gauff has booked her place in another Wuhan Open semifinal, getting past Laura Siegemund in convincing fashion.
Gauff closed out the match with a dominant 6-0 second set, having already broken serve twice on her way to taking the opener 6-3.
The 21-year-old has bounced back well from her recent China Open semifinal defeat to Amanda Anisimova, showing no signs of a hangover from that straight-sets loss.
She’s also already made history at this year’s tournament, and now looks well placed to add another WTA 1000 title to her resume before the season wraps up.
Pam Shriver has been impressed by Gauff’s play recently. Her next opponent will be either Iga Swiatek or Jasmine Paolini, who are due to face off later today.
Gauff now moves into another semi-final, this time hoping to push through and reach the final in a country where she has plenty of fan support.
Speaking on court after her win over Siegemund, Gauff was clearly pleased with her performance in the quarterfinal. She said:
“I am happy with how I played today. She is a tricky player. Back to the semifinals, so I am happy to be back here in this position.”
“I think I had chances in the first set to have a greater lead. I think I just capitalised on those chances more in the second set.
“No. I am just happy to be back in another round. Just enjoying my time and taking it one match at a time.”
Gauff played well and will be pleased with her performance, especially given her history against Siegemund.
With the Australian Open approaching in January, Gauff will be aiming to build momentum by adding more wins before the year wraps up.

After a tough loss to Anisimova last week, Gauff will be hoping to take full advantage of this semifinal opportunity.
The semifinal should be a good test for her. Both Paolini and Swiatek are playing well right now, which should make for an entertaining match for the Wuhan crowd.
