Davis Cup quarterfinals

Spain – Czech Republic: 20.11.2025 10:00 CEST
H2H: 5-4

First potential matchup:

Carreno-Busta – Mensik
H2H: 0-1

Pablo Carreno-Busta has won four of his last five matches. The last match he played was at the Challenger Tournament in Olbia, where he had a decent run, reaching the final. Van Assche eventually stopped him in the final in three tight sets. The Spaniard is one of the most experienced players in the Davis Cup this week. In his last Davis Cup appearance, Carreno-Busta defeated Moller and lost to Rune against Denmark. He spent most of this season playing on the Challenger Tour.

Jakub Mensik has lost three of his last five matches. The last match he played was in Basel, where he withdrew from the second round match against Fonseca. Mensik had a breakthrough season this year, entering the top 20 in the rankings. He helped the Czech Republic get the win over the USA this season in September. He defeated Tiafoe in straight sets and lost to Taylor Fritz. Mensik had his best results this season on fast, hard courts, such as here in Italy. His most significant result was winning the Masters 1000 title in Miami in March.

Jakub Mensik is a better player than Carreno-Busta, especially on indoor hard courts. Carreno-Busta struggled with his form for the past few seasons. On the other hand, Mensik dominated this season, and with his qualities, we expect him to secure the Czech Republic’s first win easily.

Second potential matchup:

Munar – Lehecka
H2H: 0-2

Jaume Munar has won three of his last five matches. The last match he played was in Paris, where he lost to Medvedev in the opening match in straight sets. A week before, Munar lost to Fonseca in the semifinals in Basel. The Spaniard has been consistent this season, so he cemented his top 50 status in the rankings. Munar helped Spain get the win over Denmark in the qualifying stage. After losing his singles match against Moller, Munar stepped up his level and got the doubles win with Pedro Martinez.

Jiri Lehecka has lost three of his last five matches. The last match he played was in Paris, where he lost to Vacherot in the opening round in straight sets. Lehecka enjoys playing on fast courts, where he has achieved his best results, making him a prominent top-20 player. Lehecka was a Czech hero in the clash against the USA. He defeated Tiafoe in the opening match in straight sets. In the fourth match, the Czech upset Fritz in three tight sets.

Lehecka is a better indoor hard-court player than Munar. He enjoys playing in the Davis Cup for his country, and under these conditions in Italy, we expect him to get the deciding second win for the Czech Republic.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, the Czech Republic is the favourite in this matchup, and we agree. They have two top 20 singles players who enjoy playing on indoor hard courts. We expect them to dominate in both singles matches and qualify the Czech Republic for the semifinals.

That being said, the Czech Republic winning is a value bet.
